In accordance with the National PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Standards, the
Elmore County Detention Center has a zero tolerance policy against sexual abuse and
sexual harassment. Sexual abuse includes any kind of sexual contact, regardless of
whether the other party agreed to the contact or not.
Our zero tolerance policy also includes the prohibition of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is defined as repeated and unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or verbal comments, gestures, or actions of a derogatory or offensive sexual nature. Our policy prohibits staff, inmates, and other adults in the facility from doing any of these things at all times.
What to do if your family member or friend tells you they have been sexually assaulted while in custody:
Report the attack to a staff member immediately.
You may also contact the PREA hotline at 1-208-555-1234.
Report the attack to jail administration.
False reporting of an allegation of rape, sexual assault, or sexual activity will be reviewed for prosecution.
