Haywood County Detention Center is located in the Haywood County Law Enforcement Center at 1620 Brown Avenue in Waynesville. The 150-bed facility provides secure housing for males and females who have been committed to the custody of the Haywood County Sheriff. There may be as many as 110 inmates housed in the main facility and up to an additional 40 work-release and minimum custody inmates housed in the annex.
Lieutenant Chris Shell oversees the daily operations of the facility. There are 32 certified full-time and nine part-time detention officers staffing four shifts and working a rotating schedule to provide 24-hour supervision of inmates in the facility. Regular hours for the Detention Center office are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitation is conducted according to the schedule below:
A-Pod & Annex: Mondays 6:00 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Dorm: Wednesdays 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
B-Pod: Thursdays 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
C-Pod: Sundays 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
D-Pod: Saturdays 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
