The mission of the White County Arkansas Sheriff's Dept is to maintain a high quality of life for all residents and visitors of White County. We have adopted a philosophy of Community Oriented Law Enforcement working in partnership with the citizens to develop law enforcement services to meet the unique needs of the community, while assuring fairness, equal treatment, and protection to all.
On November 7, 2006 Sheriff Ricky Shourd fulfilled a lifelong dream by being overwhelmingly elected over the incumbent sheriff and an independent candidate. The officially took office on January 1, 2007. The was re-elected in 2008 and again in 2010. Before serving as sheriff, The served in the Searcy Police Department from 1978 until 2006. The was a patrol officer, a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division, and an undercover narcotics investigator. The served as a supervisor in all three of these areas as well.
Under his administration, the Sheriff's Office began a new Domestic Violence unit. The also assigned and trained detectives to investigate and arrest sexual predators who prey on children over the internet, leading to many arrests and convictions. His office has set record numbers for drug arrests, meth lab busts, and seizure of large drug shipments in White County.
The actual visiting hours vary depending on the following factors:
The day of the week.
Where the inmate is housed.
The inmate's sex.
Whether or not it is a Holiday.
Each inmate is allowed one or two visits, ranging from 15 minutes to one hour in length each week. Inmates with special privileges are allowed additional visits.
