The Jail is primarily a pretrial detention facility and is the largest inmate holding facility operated under the auspices of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office. The Jail encompasses approximately 11 acres under roof and has a total bed capacity of 1,979. In 2003, approximately 39,000 adult offenders (17 years of age and older as mandated by state law) were processed through this facility.
There are mutiple methods for obtaining the release of an individual incarcerated in the Cobb County Jail. The act requires an individual to ensure the appearance of the arrested individual for all court appearances until adjudication. The obligating individual(s) are known as the surety. The individual being released from custody is referred to as the principal.
The Cobb County Sheriff's Office uses video conferencing (video) to conduct both public and professional visits. Visits are scheduled to allow for a more effective and streamlined process to accommodate an increasing number of visitors to the facility.
