The Crawford County Jail in Steelville, Crawford County, Missouri, like all jails is a maximum security facility. Because the inmates in this jail range from low level offenders to those being held for violent crimes like robbery, rape and murder, the security level is as high as is it is in any maximum security state prison. The men, women and juveniles being held in the Crawford County Jail are either awaiting trial or have been sentenced in the Crawford County Court System already and been sentenced to a period of time of one year or less. When an inmate is sentenced to a year or more, they are admitted into the Missouri Prison or Federal Prison System. Inmates in the Crawford County Jail are fed three meals a day totaling 2,500 calories, are allowed access to phones to contact friends and family members, are allowed at least one hour a day for exercise, have access to books, bathroom and shower facilities. The inmates are allowed mail to be delivered to them as well as newspapers and magazine from trusted outside publishers.
Although bonds are posted at the Sheriff's Department, all bonds are then handled through the court where the warrant originated. Once a bond has been posted, you must contact the court in order to obtain information regarding when your bond may be refunded to you.
The schedule is as follows: Inmates in Pod A: Saturdays 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Inmates in Pod B: Sundays, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Inmates in Pod C: Mondays, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Inmates in Pod D, Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Inmates in Pod E, Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Inmates in Pod F, Thursday, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
All visitors MUST arrive at the jail at 6:00 p.m. and all adult visitors MUST have a photo ID, or visitation may be denied.
In the event that there are too many visitiors at one time for a particular pod, the visitors will be broken up into two groups, with the first group going in from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., and the second group going in from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
